The reliability of the lifting mechanism depends on the construction and serviceability of rope sheaves. When the ropes descent from the sheaves because of damage of the edges of the sheaves and the safety devices they quickly wear out in the process of friction of the sheaves axles. In this connection, it is recommended to use the steel sheaves, which are stronger than cast iron, as well as to provide the special protections, covering the sheaves, so that between them and the sheaves will be the minimum clearance. Lifetime of steel ropes can be increased by the accordingly selection of sheaves and reels diameters, correct laying of them to the drum, and a reliable fastening to the drum, and in the regular care of them and timely lubrication.
